A group of mostly elder writers gathered in a brightly-lit room to shed light on a taboo topic: how to write good sex scenes at the Motion Picture and Television Fund campus in Woodland Hills over the weekend.
“Is it safe to express slight is way better than blunt?” asked one gray-haired gentleman.
“ we really think blunt is much better than subtle,” replied Jonathan Beckman, an author that is british editor who led the discussion dubbed “When Good Writers Turn Bad during intercourse.” He addressed people of the San Fernando Valley branch for the California Writers Club — many within their eighties — reading explicit passages from publications worthy for the sex that is bad Fiction Award, a yearly honor presented by Literary Review mag.
One frothy excerpt he cited went, “He offered significant focus on her legs.” Other examples had been too visual to be printed right right here. 1 or 2 listeners stepped away, evidently offended by the frank matter that is subject but the majority stayed closely involved, using records as Beckman described do’s and don’ts of intercourse writing.
